With a drummer who is just barely acceptable, it would be on the verge of a full 5.

I love the vibes of those tracks so much that I don't even notice John Mayhew's breathlessness.

A whole other story will come, and in any case, a dignified debut from 5 eighteen-year-olds with still somewhat unclear ideas!

I prefer the previous trilogy and also A Trick. It's a great album, but I think it could use some trimming...

One of the most beautiful records of all time.
Genesis: Archive 1967-75
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
5 essentially for the integral "the lamb" live. And who cares about Hackett's overdubs and Gabriel's re-recorded parts, the live is stunning!
Genesis: Platinum Collection

3 CDs, of which 1.5 are absolutely useless

Interesting the backward journey. CD 3 (from The Lamb to Trespass) should have contained 45 tracks (I would leave out only More fool me, Aisle of plenty - even though directly connected to Cinema show - and a couple from The Lamb).

It’s not interesting; it’s clearly intentional, like saying I from the past don’t give a damn, just listen to how beautiful we are and how cool we are!
  • harlequin

If you then consider that Genesis was a bit revisionist: "eh, that damn prog. Too easy. The real challenge is to condense our really cool stuff into 3-minute pieces, so That's All is better than Supper's Ready" ...but how could they say things like that?

It's not an exact quote, but the concept expressed, especially by Banks, is that.

Look, there’s one thing in particular that drives me crazy… they’ve repeatedly denied the prog period… and why? Was it such a pain to deal with Gabriel or Hackett, who instead continued to celebrate the Genesis era both on record and live… who knows?

I don't know, I always stop at 1976 with them and I'm good with that. Maybe I listened to it once, years ago.
Gentle Giant: Giant For A Day
CD Audio I have it ★★★
we are towards the swan song...the band tries to renew itself to avoid being swept away by the times, the result is a decent album but well below the standards.

Oh yes. If someone stopped listening to them after 1976 ("Interview" is still a good album), it wouldn’t be a big loss. However, their decline was short and dignified, at least.
Gentle Giant: In A Glass House

And here we address each other formally... great album, perhaps my favorite, perhaps not, but definitely a strong 5.

Considered by many as an useless album. Considered by me as a very good album of wonderful covers reinterpreted in a jazz style with the stunning voice of Michael, very comfortable in the crooner version. Directed by Phil Ramone.
