It doesn't give me the impression of great shape... feels a bit cold live!
  • And I would say! Joel and his band are performing here in Russia in 1987! Special guests, white crows of Western rock. We are at the beginning of Perestroika, but with the Troika still in place and the Russians present, all of them recommended by the Single Party, who before Joel had only seen Elton John eight years prior (some of them)! Completely unaccustomed to making noise and letting loose with rock. Fearful, in that case, of being arrested and thrown in for disturbing the public peace, subversion of the institutions, undignified behavior for a communist... Go watch the footage... what faces! Completely ordinary gentlemen, young people, even older, more used to enjoying a sonata by Prokofiev than a bunch of Americans playing pop rock. At that time, even Dark Side of the Moon hadn’t reached Moscow. Joel is giving it his all, he knows this well, tries to pretend that everything is normal and professionally puts his heart into it, but it’s not like being at his Madison Square Garden. The album serves as a document (the film is better, at this point). Other live albums by Joel are better.

Indeed. However, it is significant for the history of fashion, even if not like reading Esterina's diary by candlelight, in the clear skies swept by the hyperborean winds.

The return to the simplicity of old Bob. Home, family, slippers, and a lot fewer drugs and cigarettes. And then a few gems here and there like All Along the Watchtower...

Well, yes, musically it’s a very simple album, yet the lyrics here are some of the most cryptic and dark I have ever written.
