a timeless record, out of time
Renaissance: Azure d'Or
Vinile I have it ★★★★
The album is not one to remember, but Haslam's voice alone raises the rating.
  • Indeed, a deeply disappointing album. The deadly eighties for Renaissance, recycled as synthetic pop stars, are worth nothing, despite the Nightingale being there, in her place, enchanting like no one else.

If you have everything, you could have spared yourself every single album that came after this one :D Here there are still some dignified flashes, but overall I agree with you, too little inspired and therefore unnecessarily long. It's a shame because the intent (the homage to the Piper era in the '60s) was very beautiful and nostalgic. "Artide/Antartide" is the last great album by Renatozzolo, who in the '70s made only albums that were at least decent when not very beautiful, even.

The first album I remember listening to is "zerofobia" by my mom. Then with the little mice, I didn’t pay much attention to it anymore, regardless.

I got my very first record when I was about 11 or 12 years old. What year was that?!

"Zerofobia" is from 1977 and it's one of those very beautiful albums I mentioned earlier. He was a good singer-songwriter, and his style and undeniable personality stand out. By the way, the term "sorcini" was coined when 99% of the valid records from Fiacchini were already in the past, so you didn't miss anything :D But in my opinion, the term sorcini reflects the spontaneity (of that time) and the friendliness. I must say, even though he isn't one of my favorites and his music only "happens" to please me, I am biased when it comes to him.

And on that record, there's "Il cielo," one of the all-time classics by Zero, which is also a lovely song.

From Via Tagliamento to L'Imperfetto (excluded), there are very tight albums from a period of involution... then, in my opinion, as of today, nothing spectacular but more than respectable.

Mado, how dignified, this pathetic, moralizing-preaching caricature with songs that are essentially invisible due to how banal and insipid they are—there's very little dignity about it. Ps: "L'imperfetto" was dignified, just that one though. I say this with great respect for the artist he was from 1973 to 1981, indeed for the artist he was even when, as a kid, he would dress up by slipping into the doorways of the buildings in Montagnola, thirty years before I was born too. So, you can imagine, he’s one of us, but today, artistically, it’s just embarrassing.

There I was selling myself, dying here, queen, whore, etc. superalbum, then I saw him on TV, I was still a kid, oh my god, it was glam, no joke...

"Sgualdrina" is the cover of "Dreamer" by Supertramp but with the lyrics reinvented by him :D It’s a very good album. Aesthetic, even musically in the more upbeat tracks, and indeed, glam rock, absolutely Glam yes. The Montagnola-Glam, world-famous. Also because he was doing these things before Bowie, and nobody knows it ahhhahaha. A style all his own, glam aesthetics, theatricality, and good writing skills; in the ballads, the Glam would fade away and his more popular outskirts-Romanesque side would come out, which is even better. Yes, Zero was a valid artist in the '70s.

The theatricality and the over-the-top declamations were always present, in the Glam side and in the folksy one.

Yes, indeed it's the cover but done right. I also have the one after, Zerolandia if I'm not mistaken with the triangle... anyway my mom told me that at the time it caused quite a stir... it looked like a mix between Bowie and Bolan in that show...

From HJ's perspective, I find that he has aged well; moreover, I will say that he seems like a nice person. I met him in the late '80s and have a great memory of him. His recent albums aren't even remotely comparable to the beautiful work of the '70s, but they're still sufficiently moving and well-crafted.

It caused quite a stir, yes. In Italy, someone like him had never been seen before, just as no one had ever seen anyone like the Bertè sisters (especially Domenica ;), his friends. It was a unique and revolutionary case, even if limited to our country, both from a scenic and aesthetic point of view, as well as in terms of musical style and songs. We in Italy often came after (even if in Fiacchini's case it's all his stuff that, once he set it to music, becomes Glam-Rock and obviously turns into, as you say, a blatant crossover with the masters Bowie and Bolan, undoubtedly) but we did it well (see the early Venditti who heavily drew from the early Elton John-Bernie Taupin, and he did it well, even if personally I don’t tear my hair out over it).

"I find that he has aged well." I, on the other hand, really don’t like today’s caricature of a character. But I have nothing to say about the person himself, except that I don't know him, I take a liking to him instinctively, and I also have testimonies regarding his friendliness and his being, all in all, a good person. I’m glad about that, but honestly, it matters relatively little to me since I don’t know him.

Scenically irresistible and with great charisma, but his theatrical/pop ballads are perhaps his best. "Zerolandia" is more than decent but inferior to the two previous ones ("Trapezio," one of the best, from '76). The next one, however, "Erozero" from '79 is probably one of the best, slightly superior to "Zerofobia," which competes with "Trapezio." The double live "Icaro" is also beautiful. The doubles "Tregua" and "Artide/Antartide" are not entirely successful but contain beautiful songs that enhance them. Then, goodbye.

But the ones you're mentioning are all valid, even if the first one with the fake live is too raw in terms of songs and I don't really like it that much, but it was a start. "Invenzioni" is already quite nice. And night. Montagnola reigns.
