I miss it. However, at the end of November, I got a 90s box set of 3 LPs of Genesis live in Montreal '74. Good audio, great live.

good recording, nothing essential!

Let me get this straight, this bootleg is called "Illegal Alien"? ONE, regardless, and maybe that's even too much.
  • dsalva
    2 feb 20
Sure. It's not really a bootleg; these are tracks from 3 concerts 10 years apart from each other, random stuff that happened, but almost useless.

Oh my god (cit.), but these seriously had the guts to name one of their albums with the UNNAMABLE?!?!?

It was....a bootleg found for 2 cents, but it's worth 1.

Historical find on the Genesis reunion in '82 to help their friend Peter in bankruptcy...
Musically nothing to remember.

Soon you'll find yourself in a psychiatric hospital reviewing Phil Collins' new wheeled walker.
*Little tour? No, as in a mobility aid.
  • harlequin
    27 jul 19
    Oh, it's a joke, huh!
Actually, this intrigues me, if not for the historical value. The only reunion with Peter. Ah, if he had gone bankrupt after UP, I wonder if we could have had a new real reunion of the group, instead of the various back-scratchings and the concert with 3 (+2) at the Circo Massimo,

Look....I am against reheated soups....better this way and to be honest, I would be sorry for the opposite....
  • harlequin
    27 jul 19
In 2007, I was fundamentally against reheated soup. And I didn't go to Rome. But then I regretted it. And I think that if Peter had also been on that stage, I would have felt more inclined, and it would have been a gift for those, like me, who experienced the glorious phase of the '70s from the sidelines (I was born in 1976).
  • dsalva

I am 13 years older than you... I grew up on bread and Genesis, and yet, despite nothing holding me back, I never went on purpose. The Genesis that interest me I have never seen and I will never see.
  • harlequin
    28 jul 19
I tried a surrogate, what I called the "time machine." I listened to "Musical box" a couple of times. It's not the same, but it's like a documentary; it shows you live what you would have seen back then. But I am left with the nostalgia for those years when I wasn't yet born.
  • dsalva
    28 jul 19
The musical box are really good... last year I saw them in Padua replicating the Selling tour... obviously it's not the same thing, but they really push hard, truly talented.
  • harlequin
    28 jul 19
Yes, they really seemed very good and precise in "copying" everything possible: instruments, skills in execution, sets, costumes. Of course, it's not possible for faces and voice.
tour of "And then....."...no more Hackett, Daryl Stuermer on guitar, Thompson on drums
Good live, decent audio quality!
Duke's tour, Collins is clowning around, sound quality is adequate...the only positive note, a nice version of Ripples.
setlist of Seconds Out + several tracks from Wind & Wuthering. Sound quality is not great.
  • hellraiser
    21 oct 18
It must be very interesting. The problem with bootlegs, though, is always the sound quality. I have several at home, but only a couple sound as great as they should. That's why I'm always hesitant to get them.
  • dsalva
    21 oct 18
I have quite a few Genesis albums, nice testimonies with unreleased live tracks on official records, but with poor sound quality, unfortunately. But then again, they are all bootlegs.
  • hellraiser
    21 oct 18
Oh yes, otherwise they wouldn't be bootleg. But I prefer to leave them alone if I'm not sure about the audio, or I try them out first if I buy them in a store and not at a fair.
Genesis: We Can't Dance
Vinile I have it ★★★
It would have also been almost 4.... Absolutely forced double LP, a single would have sufficed, removing the usual nonsense reminiscent of the 80s, starting with the title track.
  • hjhhjij
    18 jan 18
The titular track (bad) isn't even the worst... I save the pop irony of "Jesus He Knows Me" along with those 3 good, more elaborate tracks. Let's say that 3 stars are just fine.
  • hjhhjij
    18 jan 18
Ah, also "No Son of Mine" as a lead/pop track is remarkable, somewhat like "Mama" was. But, well...
  • dsalva
    18 jan 18
I can't stand We can't dance (song), and I don't really see the pop irony in Jesus; it gives me more of a sense of pity...
  • hjhhjij
    18 jan 18
In reality, it's a quite focused critique against the media and TV gurus, albeit in its own small way, but to me it seems definitely less ridiculous than, for instance, "Illegal Alien," also known by the alternate title "Unmatched Filth" :D But hey, in the end, they’re just details; it doesn’t change much.
  • hjhhjij
    18 jan 18
One that really gets on my nerves and I can't even remember the title is the one dedicated to Eric Clapton and Lory del Santo's deceased son. Collins' dedication, being a good friend of Clapton, is surely sincere, but damn, did you really have to make that syrupy little song with no art, no substance, and no soul (and it's especially this last aspect that irritates me).

Well, of course compared to Invisible, Abacab, Genesis, and Calling, it really stands out... but it's elsewhere that you need to look.

a classic finale of Genesis concerts, 45 version in this case!
Genesis: Three Sides Live

You don't discuss live performances. They even manage to enhance the tracks from Abacab... the fourth studio side, leftovers from previous sessions, take away a star from the rating.

5 essentially for the integral "the lamb" live. And who cares about Hackett's overdubs and Gabriel's re-recorded parts, the live is stunning!

Interesting the backward journey. CD 3 (from The Lamb to Trespass) should have contained 45 tracks (I would leave out only More fool me, Aisle of plenty - even though directly connected to Cinema show - and a couple from The Lamb).
  • dsalva
    27 jul 19
It’s not interesting; it’s clearly intentional, like saying I from the past don’t give a damn, just listen to how beautiful we are and how cool we are!
  • harlequin
    27 jul 19
If you then consider that Genesis was a bit revisionist: "eh, that damn prog. Too easy. The real challenge is to condense our really cool stuff into 3-minute pieces, so That's All is better than Supper's Ready" ...but how could they say things like that?

Look, there’s one thing in particular that drives me crazy… they’ve repeatedly denied the prog period… and why? Was it such a pain to deal with Gabriel or Hackett, who instead continued to celebrate the Genesis era both on record and live… who knows?

we are towards the swan song...the band tries to renew itself to avoid being swept away by the times, the result is a decent album but well below the standards.

Oh yes. If someone stopped listening to them after 1976 ("Interview" is still a good album), it wouldn’t be a big loss. However, their decline was short and dignified, at least.
