really beautiful, just maybe I find the Delirium a bit forced in the first 20.

Yes Emerson, I am 13 years old and thank you for the compliment, definitely too much! :-P

ELP in first place is just unbearable.

We are the same age, and you have no idea how much I admire you. Put in Area as far as I'm concerned.

mmmm, I don't know, Emerson is too showy on Lake's ballads. Anyway, great band.

Beautiful; oh my, the E,L&P first... for me they should have been placed behind the Genesis-Crimson-Van der Graaf trio. Truly a great ranking anyway. H to He, who a'm the only one... bliss!

oh my god!!!!!! have the ELP sunk so low!?
let me explain why: I’ve come to realize that ELP are a great progressive band, but they are the least progressive of them all, that’s why I ranked them lower...

  • hjhhjij
    27 oct 10
Now it's perfect, but in what sense are the E, L & P the least prog of all? Anyway, the first two are perfect.

  • Felo
    27 oct 10
Since there is no valid concept of Prog, ELP are prog until I decide otherwise :)

  • Rock70
    27 oct 10
Well, what I mean is that prog, in my opinion, is that rock that makes use of other instruments in their songs and that uses very strange musical time signatures. Regarding the last statement, ELP is involved, but not at all regarding the first!

  • Rock70
    27 oct 10
And then there was a music that was harder than that of Genesis (for example), who are definitely the most famous band in the world of prog (together with Pink Floyd).

  • Felo
    1 nov 10
I don't even know to what extent Pink Floyd can be considered Prog. Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Ummagumma seem to me the most Prog; for the rest, there’s almost nothing prog.

Great ranking. There's no need to discuss the positions. I would suggest maybe adding a few more Italian bands like Museo Rosembach, Biglietto per l'Inferno, and Locanda delle Fate.

Damn, the Kings in fourth place.

  • Rock70
    8 dec 10
I'll explain right away: I like King Crimson 50% with "In the Court of the Crimson King"; the other albums (in my opinion) are inferior to the albums by Genesis (with Peter Gabriel), Van der Graaf Generator, and Jethro Tull...

  • hjhhjij
    10 dec 10
I can agree on Crimson, maybe, with Rock regarding Genesis (even without Gabriel, and come on, Trick and Wind are masterpieces) and the Generator, but I completely disagree on the inferiority of albums like "Islands" compared to those of Jethro (and I consider Aqualung and Thick as a Brick to be two of the greatest masterpieces of classic progressive - up to '74, just to be clear -), but well, tastes are always subjective. Did I already tell you that I agree with the first two? And that it makes me happy to see Campovecchio in the top 10 (listen to Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn)?

I can't believe it, King Crimson in seventh place with "Red".

  • hjhhjij
    22 feb 11
What do you have against Red?

  • Felo
    22 feb 11
Nothing, I just say that in sixth place you can't see them. Red is among the most beautiful, but nothing compared to In The Court or In The Wake.

  • hjhhjij
    22 feb 11
I think that The Wake, while being a very beautiful and far too underrated album, I consider it at least two notches below "Red".

  • Felo
    22 feb 11
Yes, okay, but sixth place under Emerson Lake & Palmer, no.

  • hjhhjij
    22 feb 11
If that's the case, for me they rank above Jethro (and by a long shot) and Yes, but it's a subjective matter ;) it's a slightly different perspective for me and you In the Court devours Aqualung (that's a masterpiece too, by the way) for breakfast, not for Rock ;)

  • Felo
    22 feb 11
Black Widow Progressive? Not really. And the Soft Machine down there, come on. And then, as you can imagine, I don’t agree with putting Area below PFM and Banco.

  • Mr. Money87
    22 feb 11
Sure, but at least for me, Trick as a Brick (as it stands now) is on par with In the Court. It's all very subjective when it comes to masterpieces of this kind.

  • hjhhjij
    22 feb 11
Felo, for the Area there's an explanation: not being a primarily progressive group, they placed them lower than PFM and Banco, which are 100% prog.

  • hjhhjij
    22 feb 11
True Money, then Thick as a Brick is an undisputed monument, it's just that overall the Crimson have reached incredible heights more often than the Jethro.

  • Mr. Money87
    22 feb 11
Yes, yes, I agree with that; I was only talking about those two works. Today, if I were standing in front of the firing squad and had to choose one last CD to listen to between the two, I would choose Trick as a Brick.

"Red is among the most beautiful, but nothing compared to In The Court or In The Wake." >>>> Felo, you can overlook In The Court, which was released in '69 and is therefore out of competition for this '70s ranking... but In The Wake is, imho, the weakest of the '70s, meaning Islands, Lizard, and the harder ones—my favorites, StarlessAndBibleBlack, Lark'sTonguesInAspic, and Red are definitely superior.
Then again, I would always place the Crimson King first, but fortunately, everyone has their own perceptual sensitivity, so decazzibus... :)))

  • Rock70
    24 feb 11
For me, King Crimson are inferior to bands like Genesis, Jethro, Yes, and ELP in the seventies. However, In the Court of the Crimson King is for me (along with Thick as a Brick) the best progressive album of all time, but it’s from 1969!

  • Felo
    24 feb 11
Yes, stonecold, you are right, I hadn't noticed. Anyway no, King Crimson were the best, ESPECIALLY in the 70s.

Anyway, I don't fully consider Area and Soft Machine as prog.
