    Not bad, brave ranking

The Beatles must be placed in first place. Then we have the Beach Boys (not to mention the Pooh and the Queen).

Damn Iside, how authoritarian you are :) Anyway, the Style Council are one of my obsessions; I'll never dethrone them! I don’t include Queen in this ranking because until Jazz I didn’t find them exactly pop (more glam-rock if anything), then they grotesquely shifted to commercial and after that I didn’t like them at all. Goodbye, old red-and-black heart!

  • I agree about the Styles. Kinks and especially Dire Straits seem excessive to define as Pop...

The fact is, I don’t know what the hell they are, actually :) Pop-rock maybe...

You put Dire Straits, Police, and Kings among the pop, while Queen are the queens of pop(ular).

I meant to say that the Pop production side of Queen doesn't appeal to me, in fact, I genuinely find it distasteful. I prefer the pop from the others I've chosen. I really like "A Night at the Opera" by Queen, but I don't consider it pop. If I had to categorize it, I would say it's glam-rock or art-rock. But that doesn't mean I can extend my appreciation to what they did afterward. In short: not only did they make pop starting from a certain date, but it was also a pop that I personally found quite unpleasant.

Queen 2, A Night At The Opera, and Day At The Races are "rock-opera," Sheer Heart Attack and Innuendo are hard rock, Queen 1 is a middle ground with a certain glam component... actually, the truly pop albums by Queen are the flops from the early '80s to '84... so it’s fair not to include them in this ranking. ;)

Hot Space is a masterpiece, the one after was good, I don’t remember it well, I should give it another listen.

Hot Space also bears the blame for inspiring Michael Jackson's Thriller... :D

I didn't know stone about the inspiration of Michael, but which one in particular Thriller? I don't find much in common, it will be...

Michael Jackson drew inspiration for the album Thriller from the sound of Hot Space, which had been released a few months earlier... this is well known anyway. ;)

I'm not averse to Queen, but I can't stand Hot Space and I completely agree with stonecoldcrazy about the junk from '80 to '84.

They only embraced the sounds of the period, but their writing has always remained varied and of quality; in fact, it's better, I would say, when you're good you have no issues of this kind, you channel the trends and the times, you don't let yourself be overwhelmed like those who may have limitations.
