You like feeling bad and pissed off like a rhinoceros whose callus has been stepped on.
But you also like the theme songs of the Knights of the Zodiac, Daitarn, and Daltanius.
And you enjoy a snack of bread and Nutella.
There's a genre made just for people like you: melodic death metal...
You're right, it's a really crappy name.
Yes... but it's angry and catchy at the same time, I mean, it hits hard but in its own way. You're tired of those four fools riding dragons and rescuing princesses. The Rhapsody, the Stratovarius, the Blind Guardian and those people there, I mean, maybe the Blinds were kind of nice, it's true, but the others... You've grown up, now you're REALLY pissed off. You need something with Growl in the vocals (but not always, you're still a sensitive soul, the Dungeons & Dragons sessions are there to remind you); you need guitars as sharp as bleeding giappokatane (but wait, you also want them melodic, so that your darker and more distressed soul can find peace), yes, basically you want diatonic scales galore (you don't really know what the hell it means, but the specialized press says that the diatonic scale is the basis of melodic death metal, and you're 16, what the specialized press tells you is gold, so you repeat diatonic 30 times until it imprints well in your mind, and on Saturdays with your metalhead friends you don't make a fool of yourself).
But now you can't play it cool saying you listen to melodic death and show up with "The Gallery" by Dark Tranquillity, even the stones know that one, you have to find something alternative, less known, more underground, something that when you arrive at the record store on Saturday and say "I bought this" the others must be left speechless and scream at the miracle, they must believe you are the new prophet, then in reality the record is not this incredible bomb, but you still make a damn good impression.
Okay, it's called Tortura Insomniae, it's by Ebony Tears, it came out in 1997, but you don't really care because you listen to Rhapsody, Blind, Stratovarius, Manowar, etc., which are definitely earlier.
It will do you good, you'll come out of the powertunnel.
You’ll transition from the unfortunate metal tunnel to the slightly less unfortunate metal tunnel. It's always a step forward, right?
What? You've been listening to Miles Davis for 10 years??? Then pretend I didn't say anything and skip this record.
Bye
