First and only album of the nu-metal band with singer Dave Williams, who passed away in 2002 due to a heart attack. After listening to this "Sinner," I was left a bit puzzled (I kind of expected it), as the record is predictable, lackluster, and not original at all.
(Perhaps I'm wrong, but) in my opinion, this group seems like a poor imitation of the less inspired Mudvayne. Some heavy-melodic changes and screams remind me of the Illinois four, but it seems unfair to make comparisons since, as of now, our Pool would pale in comparison. The songs, however, are pleasant, rather catchy, and easily digestible, very heavy, although, as mentioned, predictable (at times boring and repetitive) and follow well-tested patterns without a touch of originality. The best ones, in my opinion, are the title track "Sinner," "Bodies," "Tear Away" (the only melodic one on the record), "Told You So," and the final solo of "Follow" (only that part though), which vaguely smells of Pantera. I must admit that the aforementioned songs appeal to me a lot and raise the overall quality of the album a bit, but this nonetheless doesn't justify the mediocrity of this record. Dave's voice is very good and quite effective in both melodic parts and semi-yelled and yelled parts (present a few times, only in the finales).
Certainly an album of strong sonic impact and fairly enjoyable, but it remains a mediocre nu-metal record. If you like the genre (as I do) and want to unleash a bit without commitments, give it a listen, but don't expect anything special, actually don't expect anything at all.
