Drim Tiater
A Dramatik Torn Of Ivents
HELLO EVERYONE!!!! I'm ilfreddo, tax code ILFDDO23E11L465T, and I apologize in advance to those users who may not like this review much, but try to understand me and don't be too harsh: it's my first time writing my one hundred seventy-third review on Debaser, and that's why I'm a bit nervous. Anyway, I'll be very brief.
I got to know Drim Tiater from the metalhead of the town, also known as Fir Of De Darc. He must have bought a lot of identical t-shirts of the Metal Herons because they were worn in the same way to the point that the mean ones said he actually always wore the same one. Come to think of it, he smelled of rotten eggs and sour armpits, but surely it wasn't as they insinuated, even though the black seemed to shine even at night: they were without a doubt accusations from truzzi and fakes. Nonetheless, F.O.D.D. was a tough guy, his t-shirt clearly spoke of his limitless musical knowledge, and his judgment was beyond dispute: so it was that I, at the time not much taller than a sink, followed his sonic advice to discover the magical world of the DT. For 15,000 lira each, "Auaich" and "Imagis And Uords" were soon mine: however, hundreds of attentive listens were not enough to make me fall in love with Petrucci and co. and so, in a sad decline, the oily figure of F.O.D.D. faded, losing all my consideration.
But greasy hair always comes to mind every time a new work by the D.T. comes out, and so over the years, I have listened here, there, and everywhere to various tracks from the masters of progressive metal, remaining firm in my opinion. When I think of the D.T., I think of my nerdy classmate. But maybe not everyone knows him, so as a public figure, it might be okay, for the comparison I have in mind, even someone like Enrico Mentana. People who terribly like hearing their own voice: they probably record it to listen to it before going to sleep. They could say something in a minute, but to demonstrate that they can open multiple parenthesis and pick up the thread, they drown you in a sea of words. Mostly useless. The same goes for Drim Tiater, only obviously it is transposed into music. They know how to play and well, but they bore us with all those narcissistic embellishments that are as useful as a prostitute at Palazzo Grazioli.
All this until, a few days ago, I came across a cover of shocking beauty on which appeared the words "The return of the theater of dreams with their most powerful and strong album ever." So forget the old D.T. of Port Noy. It's clear from the start, I mean with the opener, that the music has changed for a direct track of the ethereal duration of just under 9 minutes, of which only 7 are instrumental. But now let's move on to a light TRAC TO TRAC.
"On De Bacs Of Angels" as anticipated is a bolt from the blue. Very melodic and winning. 10+
"Bild Mi Up, Brec Mi Daun": heavy and incandescent metal mixes with sublime orchestrations for just 13 repetitions of the James La Bri choir in a state of grace that one wishes would never end like Petrucci's solos/riffs. 10
"Lost Not Forgotten": a gallop fading into the wind for an ivory carpet. A brilliant intro that creates a calm atmosphere that is unexpectedly and startlingly broken by John's riff. The drums of the new acquisition resume the galloping for an uneasy prog, not at all self-serving instrumentally, in which the band's entire chemistry emerges with nearly perfect automatism thanks to continuous unpredictable rhythm changes. 9
"Dis Is De Laif": liquid sounds blend with James' soft voice, the backing vocals, the delicate arpeggio for a sweet lullaby of rare beauty with a conventional but successful crescendo. 8 and a half/9
The half of the album starts with a nice repeated belch in "Brigges In The Scai". It might seem rude, but the DT know how to be original and combine and unite diverse sounds without the slightest force. Evi Metal to give you goosebumps worthy of the golden times for a prog in continuous construction capable of taking the passages, breaking them, enriching them for 11 minutes that you want to listen to over and over. 9 and a half.
"Autcrai": It resembles the introduction of the other 4 previous songs, but if you listen carefully, it's different. Damn it's different! A track that doesn't leave your mind with electronics, orchestrations, and solos hitting everywhere like waves of a stormy sea. 9 leaning towards 10
"Far From Even": I don't like it. Too dull. 9-
"Breching All Illusion": Maic Mangini shows his ability behind the drums and then leaves room for penetrating and melancholic whispered verses. The exceptional text "Sercing Out, Ricing Out, To Arraiv Uer Ai Bigan, Saigts Rimemberd, In De Lait" perhaps better conveys than words the Mariana Trench depth of the track. 10
"Binit De Surfais": It's a sweet lullaby, a melodic and melancholic farewell. Fortunately, there's the play button to start over. 9 and a half.
Without exaggerating, the D.T. with this album of just 77 minutes opened my eyes. I was like Rocky Balboa after his first fight before, but now I've finally realized how exceptional a band they are. Shocking. It's as if they discovered a new musical note to insert in the score, thus paving the way for countless evolutions for the future of all musical genres. One might even dare a new timeline demarcation like "post A Dramatik Torn Of Ivents." A bit like before and after Christ, transposed into music.

‘Breaking All Illusion’ ... can be considered not only the best song on the album but rather the best Dream Theater song at least since ‘Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence.’
‘A Dramatic Turn Of Events’ … instills new life in a darker and more reflective sound than usual, although never as leaden as in ‘Train Of Thought.’

Just as we were entering the hall, in front of the official ticket ripper, I realize I don’t have them anymore!
And here ends my DRAMATIC TURN OF EVENTS, for that night.

"‘A Dramatic Turn Of Events’ is the best album written by Dream Theater in many (and many) years."
"For fans, the album will be like a breath of fresh air taken in a mountain village, after breathing the smog of a chaotic and noisy metropolis."

"A Dramatic Turn Of Events is once again technicality in the service of melody, it is assault and surrealism, wonder and dynamism, reflection and abandonment."
"Dream Theater wanted to send a strong and decisive signal ... they are still one of the most fascinating realities in the world, still capable of captivating and involving."

No one will be able to say that I don’t want to help these poor DT: they only have 119 reviews and it’s not fair!
I’m spreading a bit of the seed of corruption... if you make me win, I promise you an autographed photo with a wet t-shirt!
