The Profile

Draconian are a Swedish gothic/doom metal band from Säffle, formed in 1994 and known for blending harsh male growls with ethereal female vocals. Signed to Napalm Records, they’ve released acclaimed albums including Where Lovers Mourn (2003), Arcane Rain Fell (2005), A Rose for the Apocalypse (2011), Sovran (2015), and Under A Godless Veil (2020).

Formed in Säffle, Sweden in 1994; signed to Napalm Records. Core voices: Anders Jacobsson (growls) and female vocalists Lisa Johansson (original era) and later Heike Langhans (on Under A Godless Veil). Frequently cited for gothic/doom with strong death/doom elements.

Seven DeBaser reviews paint Draconian as stalwarts of gothic/doom. Arcane Rain Fell is repeatedly hailed as their peak, with “Death, Come Near Me” singled out. Where Lovers Mourn earns praise as a strong debut steeped in ‘beauty and the beast’ vocals. Turning Season Within is noted as less original yet well-produced and compelling. A Rose for the Apocalypse is celebrated as a forceful return to majestic form.
