THE REVIEW

God almighty, forgive me for I have sinned.
With my knees on shards of glass, I prostrate myself to you,
soaked in mud and spitting pain.

Sovereign of the heavens, my veins for years have carried bright hells and dark paradises.
My pupils have made flowers bloom from the rocks, my arms have swum in rivers of purple grass.
My tongue, useless shred of mad flesh, has spoken with your disheveled angels.

God almighty forgive me for I have sinned.
With a bent back and a curved soul, I prostrate myself to you.
Yours is the sword that kisses my neck.

Sublime manifestation of life is your breath, which in the afternoons I have always refused, preferring the breath of the devil's weed.
To your voice of finches, sparrows, and nightingales, I preferred the barking of dogs, and the goat's bleating of the dream seller. On desperate nights I did not follow your steps: behind hoofprints I wandered lost.

When among the celestial vaults the trumpets blared, here on earth I served flagellating electric cords and vibrating lambskins.
On blossoming Sundays you gathered your disciples, but  I found myself under other pulpits, pushing and bleeding.
If your word was to forgive and care, for years mine has been the child of revenge and suffering.

To your sacred body I preferred, scraps of food.
Your blood, miraculous wine, was replaced by a mug of beer.
I did not turn to you before sleep, in that room drunk with smoke and slumber.

God, sole and merciful, judge me with justice, for I know I am a humble sinner, a miserable man, a beggar of love, but do not forget forgiveness.

Because, Holy among the holy, if it is true that with one Eye I Hate God it is also true that from the other I am blind.
And not all the blame for the evil in the world is mine.
