In recent years, there have been very few albums that have truly thrilled me and that I've listened to over and over again until I was sick of them. Among all of these, this “Back to times of splendor” undoubtedly stands out, a great masterpiece by the German band Disillusion.
The album is certainly the most innovative and original we've seen in recent years in the metal scene, just listen to the album opener "And the mirror cracked," where they move from death/thrash fury to more reflective moments. The second track, "Fall," is instead imbued with a progressive vein, showcasing the band's outstanding technique. It is followed by two tracks that might intimidate the listener since their average duration is 12 minutes each, but in reality, these are the two most beautiful and representative tracks of the album. We move from the third track "Alone I stand in fires," which is an apocalyptic evolution where death, black, prog, and thrash are all one to the classically beginning violins of the title track, which ends in an aggressive industrial outburst. The last two tracks, on the other hand, are more calm and reflective and give a great sense of nostalgia at the end, making you want to start everything over again.
In short, an album that absolutely must not be missing in your discography.
