I know I've really been annoying with these reviews of Dido's albums and especially since there's already a review of "Life for Rent," but if I don't say my piece, I can't sleep at night! Anyway, here's a "track-by-track" for you. Be kind, at least I've spared you a fan introduction!
White flag - ***** Dido is still in love, damn it. And she has no intention of stopping. The wounds love has left her turn into a perfect rhythm, sensual, sparkling with black reflections that lays on a synth strings sheet allowing space for her non-common voice, clear as a glass pane. Ancient.
Stoned - ***** It's like a dive into the Atlantic Ocean, you find yourself resurfacing surrounded by a bewildering piano after holding your breath for the entire track. Call it ambient. Call it dance-pop. But call Dido an artist, because someone who writes "It's hard sometimes not to look away/And think what's the point when I'm having to hold this fire down/I think I'll explode, if I can't feel this freely now" and sings
The album contains 11 new songs plus a ghost track, and it definitely does not make us miss the previous debut.
'White Flag' is perfect for radio airplay, but the album contains other little gems starting with the title track 'Life For Rent.'
The song that stands out the most for the beauty and romanticism of the album is definitely "White Flag."
Unlike other singers, Dido has always been professional, never seen taking a microphone and shouting 'so who’s the best??!' She just sings, doesn’t show off.
