Rarely do we encounter a work as intriguing as the one I am about to review. But I believe you have already guessed what this is about.
The progress made by Loudin during his career with the Despond project has allowed him to mature mentally and musically, producing yet another chapter of his incredibly twisted and dark mind. "Supreme Funeral Oration" is a true one-way ticket to a fascinating ancestral journey.
Indeed. This time we will be listening to a good amount of really well-done Funeral Doom Metal, with the difference that no one dies, no one bleeds, but rather we head towards a mental journey that will catapult us into something you have never heard before: morbid and decadent guitar riffs; perfectly fitting and really unique growl vocals; a drum composed with a particular Drum Machine (he told me personally in chat, otherwise, I would never have believed it) that deserves nothing less than to be knelt before its supreme and unprecedentedly slow beats, which with a touch of enviable mastery accompany the entire piece in a crescendo of depression and ancestorness.
Describing the tracks one after the other is absolutely useless and misplaced. We are talking about an album to be listened to in one go, without pause, while attentively following what Loudin himself wants to convey to us: we are facing a sky too foggy to see the moon's light, our last hope is to raise our arms like branches towards the sky, seeking salvation. But on the other hand, the particular and well-displayed digipack artwork perfectly conveys the idea and only serves to increase the emphasis and suffocation of a true journey towards oblivion.
Surely someone will find it boring just by looking at the cover, because taken with superficiality it can prove to be deadly boring and unlistenable. That's why I recommend listening to it calmly, perhaps with a suitable state of mind, lyrics in hand, and incense under the nose.
Bon Voyage to everyone.
