The ever-prolific Albin Julius, following the very recent Joyride that I talked about here shortly, releases another work entitled The Wolvennest Sessions, for now only in promo format. It has been some time now since people started discussing how Albin Julius has expanded his interests, as demonstrated by the recent albums under the name Der Blutharsch And The Infinite Church Of Leading Hand, heavily influenced by psychedelia and a decidedly hippie attitude. However, I remember how his dark martial-industrial past musically remains very valid and has given us gems like The Track Of The Hunted and Time Is Thee Enemy!: I have no trouble declaring the old era superior to the new one, and occasionally it still resurfaces from the seething magma of acid-rock. To be clear, it's not that the new Blutharsch are lacking, but their formula seems unoriginal, and the ideas do not always seem well-focused; everything sounds too verbose, although there are still inspired moments. This new The Wolvennest Sessions seems better calibrated and continues even more radically in the operation of recovering vintage sounds: on this occasion, the sound is solid, characterized by a wall of guitars over which the beautiful voice of Marthynna stands out.

The album is composed of 3 long tracks: in the first, "Out Of Darness Deep," the beginning is atmospheric, liquid, and space-rock like the Hawkwind could be, then the music becomes psychedelic and hard, and at times, it even reminded me of Amon Düül II. In the subsequent "Unreal," the settings do not change, remaining anchored to a monolithic acid-rock. The concluding "Evil Love" is, if possible, even more abrasive in its dark and psychedelic progression, while Marthynna's voice is always very effective in conducting the ritual. Another confirmation of how the group is creating its own formula for psychedelia of the new millennium.
