THE REVIEW

Demi Lovato will forever be labeled as a former Disney star. And ever since she embarked on her solo music career, this can only be confirmed up until her second album Here We Go Again, the last to feature Disney's trademark carefree teen-pop tracks. Later on, obstacles began to emerge in Demetria Devonne's daily life, becoming a part of her and her personality, only increasing her courage and desire for rebirth after a period of rehabilitation for bulimia and self-harm. All of this sets the backdrop for her third album Unbroken, a work that fully describes the protagonist's feelings, including love stories that start and end (inevitable), sometimes viewed from a different, perhaps positivist perspective; three-minute autobiographies; new hopes for the future.

It kicks off with the four features that cannot help but be seen as dance bombs, pleasant to listen to but not surprising (particularly Together feels familiar). The solo performances begin, already better, where Demi moves between dance (the title-track), piano and string-based pieces (Fix a Heart, Skyscraper, For the Love of a Daughter) and other experimental uptempo dance and positive tunes, not forgetting the single Give Your Heart a Break. Despite these tracks being pleasant to listen to (especially Mistake, one of the best tracks on the record), it is in the ballads that Demi seems at ease as a vocal performer, very expressive and moving. A separate mention goes to the last of the 14 tracks, For the Love of a Daughter. Excluded from the previous album and worthily replaced by Everything You're Not, it narrates the love/hate relationship with her father. The purely instrumental base devoid of strong electronics is apt: a crescendo of piano, strings, percussion, and guitar that is truly moving. Moving, did I say? What really moves here is Demi's voice, whispering very expressive words with impressive sincerity; a track that must be listened to.

In conclusion, an autobiographical album that talks about rebirth after a dark period, whose music often matches the magnificent lyrics (except for the first three tracks), approved!
