I like to see Alice in Chains this way: Layne Staley, a man destroyed by his past, singing his problems to the listener; as he sings, he is accompanied by musicians who understand his mistakes, his character, and his melancholy, and thus try to help him: the result they create is devastating music, wonderful and dark, that tears at the souls. I have loved all their albums with Layne, especially the self-titled album and Dirt. In a word: immense.
