Virgin Steele -Visions of Eden
After a full 6 years since the last album, Defeis comes out with what is probably the most divisive record among Virgin Steele fans. A concept that traverses both heavy metal territories and the edge of the theatrical, featuring a masterful vocal interpretation of the characters. Slightly wordy, the album fails to win over many enthusiasts due to its stark differences from the works of the '90s, largely due to a production that was inadequate at the time. In the 2017 remixed version, however, this album finds its natural consecration with a production that lives up to the expectations. Perhaps the last great masterpiece of Virgin Steele. more
The Beatles
For better or worse, they have marked the history of Pop/Rock, influencing dozens of artists who came after and became essential in their own right. There are those who contest their influence on modern music or claim that they "didn't invent anything." If you think this way, know that no one has ever invented anything from scratch. Mozart didn't invent classical music just as Kraftwerk didn't invent electronics, and Elvis didn't invent Rock'n'roll. They were certainly famous and commercial, and it's precisely this that made them more influential than many others. Shall we also deny that other incredibly important artists like Pink Floyd, The Who, Rolling Stones, or Led Zeppelin were famous and commercial at the time? This shouldn't diminish their significance. The concept underlying pop is rather simple after all: those who can afford significant visibility exert a substantial influence, while those who, for various reasons, cannot escape anonymity wield less influence. more

Prince
A tremendous talent, so he deserves a 5. Personally, however, I've never appreciated him much. Great music, but especially in the '80s, drowned in the sounds and reverbs of that era (I find the very early stuff from the late '70s interesting). On an iconographic and content level, he has never interested me (in fact, he has always been cordially unpleasant). more

Gentle Giant -Octopus
Their most representative and celebrated album, rightly so. It's probably the album of their definitive maturity, a record where they manage to compose songs averaging 4 minutes while packing in all their imagination, technical skill, and the typical characteristics of Prog utilized in the best way, all in their absolutely inimitable style. Prog in 4 minutes, one could define it as the album of the octopus. The nice thing is that I realize that the ease of listening to the album is, in relation to the complexity of the compositions, impressive, thanks to its verve and superb melodic inspiration, elements that make the entire listening experience enjoyable, captivating, never pretentious. They had divine inspiration back then, who knows. All 8 songs are excellent, many of them are among the best in their repertoire, "The Advent of Panurge" (still Rabelais) "Knots", in short, the entire initial quartet, at least. And then there’s her, the masterpiece of Kerry Minnear's life as a composer and singer (when he sang, oh my...) the most beautiful song of the Gentle Giant. Think Of Me With Kindness - Gentle Giant (1972)
