Mantua. The Florentine band led by Steve Sylvester, together with producer Neil Kernon (previously involved with sacred monsters such as Judas Priest and Nevermore) locked themselves in the studio to churn out yet another work.
"Panic" is the result of a year of hard work, but what emerges is the definitive album of the Band.
What immediately strikes old-school fans is that, along with the original sounds, more original and extreme musical elements have been added. The Death Steve Sylvester give free rein to their imagination, sometimes creating gothic atmospheres, something they have been good at since time immemorial.
With the start of the new era, our artists play with electronics, but unlike other bands, they do not become slaves to it.
"Paraphenalia" opens our local CD: it is nothing but a recitation by the legendary director Alejandro Jodorowsky. The beautiful "Let the Sabbath Begin!!" is perhaps one of the Vampire's most successful hits, with choirs made expressly to be accompanied by fans during concerts.
Following it is "Hi tech-Jesus", the first single from Panic and a song dedicated to a more "electronic" heavy metal.
A song with an intro that has an oriental flavor is "Lady of Babylon" (as the title suggests). This track perfectly demonstrates how Oleg Smirnoff's keyboards fit perfectly with the sound of Death SS, always very original.
"The Equinox of the God" is opened by the sound of the bass and then blooms into an exotic atmosphere with a rather unusual chorus. "Ishtar" can be defined as a track that approaches industrial metal in the style of Rammstein, very striking for its resemblance to some songs by the Germans, or perhaps it's better to say that some songs by Rammstein resemble "Ishtar".
Really great tracks are "The Cannibal Queen" and the Agony Bag cover "Rabies Is A Killer" with the chorus practically extending throughout the song. A track with a total electro-metal approach is "Hermaprodyte", which precedes another outro recited by director Jodorowsky, "Auto Sacramental".
The album closes with the title track "Panic", which starts with Black Widow-like sounds. A very powerful track that closely resembles "Let the Sabbath Begin!!"
And so the magical circle of Steve closes, producing one of the best horror metal CDs of our country and beyond. This album might cause some old-time fans to wrinkle their noses due to the electronic inserts, but as we know, one must be cutting-edge. At first, I didn't like it either, but after listening to it several times, you won't mind this novelty.
Then they say that metal is not well-played in Italy, but they only listen to Lacuna Coil!
Oh, please...
