LA RECENSIONE

There are two guys who steal a synthesizer, recruit a homeless black man, and put a microphone in his hand.

No, it's not a joke, it's Death Grips. Formed in 2010 in Sacramento, California, by Zack Hill, a versatile drummer who brings along Andy Morin, also known as "Flatlander," and Stefan Burnett, also known as "MC Ride." In 2011, they released a mixtape: "Exmilitary" and in 2012, their first album "The Money Store" came out, partly inspired by their previous work.

These three rough characters delight us with rap seasoned with noise, industrial, punk, techno but also violence, murderous fury, and a lot of anger. And then there's MC Ride, who plays the typical mad black guy shouting Maddafacca here and Maddaffacca there, and he does it like only an angry black guy could, accompanied by syncopated beats made by Hill and Morin.

That said, it's certainly not worth shouting masterpiece, but they do their thing, knowing how to be innovative and entertaining at the same time.

These guys make a kind of hip-hop (?!) filled with glitch, crude and pointless electronic experiments (I would rather call them atrocities).

I see that this album is praised left and right, even being considered among the best albums of 2012... An absurd and shameful hype, in my opinion.
