I don't know why, but this Dead Mouse DJ appears moderately likable to me.
Perhaps it's because this rodent reminds me of a recent feud with a poor (R.I.P.) guest of my meager pantry, or perhaps because a deceased mouse rummaging through turntables and assorted trinkets [a pretty tough job, you'll agree; while sweating the classic twelve shirts to entertain the crowd, the majority - whether high on crack or stuffed with alcohol beyond the floating threshold - couldn't care less about His work] seems rather charming.
Clearly, the empathy one might feel for the ear-wigged rodent cannot disregard what he is capable of offering with his release, launched through Ministry Of Sound at the end of last year, with its unique nomenclature “Random Album Title.”
What is appreciated from listening to this sort of transhumance on a single medium of 12 composite tracks from already separately released outtakes is the appropriate freshness overall, the balanced, enjoyably sharp, glittering, icy choice of sounds and solutions with which he manipulates, shapes, and handles the intangible danceable house matter: ranging from enjoyably exquisite Techno-Trash critters (“Complications”), to more polished by-products of a para-Orbital nature (“Brazil”), and potential Pop-scraps capable of climbing the charts across half the globe (“I Remember”): perhaps it's no coincidence that at the end of June (2009) he will be one of the names on the bill at Sonar in Barcelona, in the company of the Hartnoll brothers.
The work is built as a delightful continuum as if it were one of the usual performances with which he, between one nibble and another, loves to sway the less stationary plantigrades, that is, those who are more inclined to the less sycophantic and distinguishably prestigious dance hall.
