Do you like provocations? But not the intellectual provocations coming from the mouth of the scholar in the situation, said with tone, not those phrases that can take on different meanings given the situations. I'm talking about those rude, nagging, annoying provocations that never stop, perseverant for weeks, months, years. The Dayglo Abortion are one of those: raw, ruthless troublemakers! The ones girls would never have wanted in the same class during middle school.
Formed in Canada in the early eighties, this band has deliberately created chaos in every field, collecting lawsuits all over the world and for every reason. Animal rights activists, moralists, feminists, politicians, religious groups, and regular American citizens have all been opposed for one reason: to stop this group as soon as possible. But as we know, if you tell a stubborn one to stop, you only make it worse.
After their first album in '81 "Out Of The Womb," the Dayglo Abortion release "Feed Us A Fetus" precisely in 1986. Already from the cover, we see something incorrect, the president of the U.S.A., Ronald Reagan (one of the most targeted presidents of the hardcore era) and his wife Nancy, a splendid presidential portrait if it weren't for two details: "Feed U.S. A. Fetus America" and instead of a classic roast beef on the president's plate we find... better leave it to your imagination. This is only the beginning, "the appetizer," to understand what kind of guys these Dayglo Abortions are. The worst comes in the lyrics. Deep hatred towards the church, against warmongering America, against the bigoted Canada, against corrupt politics, against everything, in short, occasionally touching the limits of decency.
As soon as the music starts, mirrors break, the walls of the house begin to shake, you want to mosh with someone and just then your grandma passes by... better stop here. It's hard to believe, but the Dayglo Abortion are excellent musicians, they play a hard-hitting hardcore with thrashy veins and this is a good thing, but listening to their solos, you can perceive roots much further back than punk, but a purely rock-blues vein, blatantly exposed with the track "Stupid World", a medley with "Whole Lotta Love" by the Zeppelin clarifies many things; not to mention the sporadic use of a Hammond organ and piano. Now labeling the band as thrashcore-blues seems like a real slap in the face, the Dayglo Abortion make well-played hardcore, cleverly enriched with nuances from other genres without compromising their credibility. Acton's voice is peculiar: hoarse and raspy, it sings the few verse songs like complaints from public gardens, yet with the emphasis and grit needed to remain well blended with the sonic wall emanating from the guitars.
What might not work with the album is the slight confusion that may remain in your head after twenty-two songs of about two minutes each that run distorted one after the other, but this for some can't help but be an excellent reason to confirm the purchase. Among the standout tracks are "Stupid Songs", "My Girl", "Used To Be In Love" and the anti-American parody "Wake Up America".
The album is a must-listen for genre lovers, but outsiders, keep away.

15 I'm My Own God ()
I can do whatever I want
Cause I am my own god
Don't have to worry if it's right or wrong
Cause I am my own god
20 Scared of People ()
I'm scared of people really don't know why
I nearly shit my pants when they look me in the eye
I'm scared of people and I'm scared of you
I'm gonna go inside and shoot some glue
All this stress and all this strain
Is too much for my little brain
I'm insecure and paranoid
I'm gonna get killed and I don't know when
