Already this summer, the first files started circulating on YouTube of what was supposed to be this fantastic soundtrack by the French electronic musicians, Daft Punk. To be honest, they didn't impress me much. Many had the contemporary classical orchestral style of Hans Zimmer, especially concerning his latest productions. But about a month ago, "Derezzed" was released. The track, which is also the only one officially released as a single, gave me relief. Yes, because this perfectly embodies, in less than two minutes, what you expect Daft Punk to do for a film like the sequel to Tron.
But no.
The other tracks of the final soundtrack are much more similar to those beta versions that were circulating on the internet, and so, for those like me who expected a new Daft Punk album in the style of Daft Punk, they were disappointed. Nevertheless, such an album should not be overlooked. What is emphasized the most, and this can be heard in all the tracks, is the desire to create solid foundations to evoke sensations on which images can be woven. That it lacks a bit of freshness is obvious. We are facing a true soundtrack, as considered for the past 50 years. This is not necessarily to the credit or fault of the duo, who still managed to produce something that approaches the threshold of excellence, but perhaps of Disney, which packaged Daft Punk's creativity as it did with Tim Burton's in Alice.
Or maybe not.
I think I cannot express an absolute judgment regarding this album, because a soundtrack works parallel to images, but not always vice versa. If this relationship achieves a 50/50 proportion in Tron Legacy (putting aside for now a screenplay from which I expect nothing good), we could say that Daft Punk did a good job.
