An important date, the realization of an incredible dream for myself: attending a Daft Punk concert, and moreover, completely free!!! As far as I know, it was their third concert in Italy in all of history (!). And it may have been the only free stop of their tour. But this did not diminish the quality of the concert. Not at all.
The show was based on spine-chilling robotic voices, hypnotic electronic melodies, and low rhythms with the power of fireworks. An undeniably great show: music, but also light plays, screen images, almost all abstract, to stimulate our minds. The duo, in robot suits and "enclosed" in a pyramid of their own invention placed on stage, made something like 200,000 people (including me, of course) move and dream. Despite the crowd, there was still plenty of room to move in the park. The beauty of the concert wasn’t just about the Daft, though: in fact, before them were Who Made Who and Lcd Soundsystem. Why on the same night? Probably because they share the ability to be as rock as they are danceable. I practically didn't know the aforementioned two groups at all, but I really liked them, I was struck by their skill. Fun fact: the Lcd also played a track called "Daft Punk is playing at My House" (a more than fitting track... hehe...)!
The schedule was as follows: 7:30 PM-8:25 PM Who Made Who, 8:30 PM-9:45 PM approximately Lcd Soundsystem, and from around 11:00 PM, or shortly before, until about 12:15 AM, Daft Punk. The first ones played while it was still daylight, the second during sunset (which for the record wasn't very visible), the third when it was already dark. By the time the latter were on, the square in front of the stage was practically full. Between 10:00 PM and 10:45 PM there was what we could call the most "boring" moment: an anonymous DJ mixed equally anonymous tracks; nice, but after a while, I got bored, because I wanted to see and hear the Daft!!! A nice thing, though, was the sudden appearance of Rey Misterio on stage!!! I couldn't believe it, but it was him!!! Sure, it made you think "What is he doing here???" but, for some reason, it was entertaining: the famous wrestler did an "entertainment dance" with another guy. Anyway, this break was boring because I couldn't wait (like others) for the Daft's concert to start! But as we know, waiting eventually ends. Moreover, as Sakyo said: "The longer you wait, the more exciting the encounter will be". Wise words. In fact, at the beginning of the concert (but also afterwards), I got super hyped!!! I was afraid someone would think I was crazy, but I couldn't contain myself anymore!!!
The Daft, one of my favorite bands of all time, were there, live, I wasn't dreaming! At the end of the concert, I confess I wanted to run backstage to hug them (and indeed I got close to the stage...)!!! It was fantastic. The two played almost their entire repertoire: we’re talking about nearly three albums in one evening (excuse me if it's not much, eh). Moreover, they even played a piece that is not theirs, but to which one of the two contributed: "Music Sounds Better With You", but with the voice of "One More Time" on top, to remind us they are Daft and not Stardust. Ehhh... and after this wonderful experience, it is not easy to return to reality. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate routine and simple things. But that night... I took off. I traveled to distant lands, between the world of music and (even more abstract) the world of ideas. Have you seen that Costa Cruise commercial, where a woman is in a bathtub crying, remembering the pools she was in during the trip? Well, that's how I felt afterwards (obviously, though, I’m a male, eh).
Conclusion: I love concerts, so it's practically certain that I’ll seek out more. Maybe they will no longer be free, but it doesn't matter!!! And I recommend everyone to go to concerts!!! Long live concerts!!!
