LA RECENSIONE

10 years after their amazing live toy "Alive 1997", Daft Punk return to the stage with a brand-new compilation of tracks performed live in Paris in June 2007. If you're feeling bored, depressed, disheartened, sad, and you need a good dose of explosive energy, put this CD in a Home Theatre system and let yourself be carried away by these frenzied rhythms that will give you all the energy you need.

The French duo doesn’t disappoint. 10 years is a long time, and the progress is obvious! The Kraftwerk-style vocoder introduction that mixes with the loop of "Robot Rock" is a delight for the ears, and it’s the introduction to a series of ear-splitting rhythms where the two robot DJs revisit their most famous hits, including the "almost better than the original" new version of "Harder Better Faster Stronger", and the always great "Da Funk". It must be noted that the songs from "Human After All", which many consider trivial, are outstanding live!

Obviously, listening to a Daft Punk live show in your living room is a bit of a downgrade... I would recommend listening, as I’ve already mentioned, on a good Home Theatre system or in a venue equipped with a club sound system, specifically rented to listen to the album and have fun with your friends. MP3 players are forbidden!

Technically it may seem like a simple work, two computers and four Moog synthesizers, no marvels of manipulation, yet... I don't know why... but these two always manage to be brilliant in their simplicity (simplicity, so to speak!), the various pieces are mixed masterfully, some passages, although simple, are jaw-dropping (Too Long and Steam Machine, for example). The sound is much more pounding than the previous "Alive", they play a lot with distorted bass, and our little home stereo can’t handle it. The difference with "Alive 97" is that here there may be fewer sound tricks and more straight bass drum. Nevertheless, it remains a great live for three quarters of an hour of healthy fun.

Not the best in the live field (the Chemical Brothers are unbeatable!) but certainly the most "eccentric".

A must-have!
