Current 93 is a legendary band. Over time, David Tibet has refined his musical offering, evolving from the dark esoteric-industrial of the early days – exemplified in classics that have gone down in history like Nature Unveiled and Dogs Blood Rising – to the classic neo-folk of Thunder Perfect Mind and All The Pretty Little Horses. In reality, the music of Current has always remained – while evolving – recognizable and has always been based on simple ideas. "Nature Unveiled" was essentially a religious music album that mixed Gregorian chants with elements of noise. Current is, ultimately, the creation of the volcanic David Tibet, who has maintained artistic integrity, despite inevitable ups and downs, that seems to know no end. The recent The Light Is Leaving Us All proved this – another neo-folk milestone – confirming that the "feel" of the Current has always remained the same despite the passage of time. Meanwhile, a complementary album to the latest release titled Invocations Of Almost was also released, conceived as an accompaniment to an art exhibition by David Tibet on the occasion of his fifty-ninth birthday. The result is of high level and connects to the darker ambient production of the Current, namely that of Where The Long Shadows Fall and The Starres Are Marching Sadly Home (the first and third parts of the The Inmost Light trilogy), Faust, and the recent The Moons At Your Door. Nostalgic fans will also find references to the earliest esoteric production. Current 93 is a religion, and those who love them will purchase this CD without hesitation, even if it is not essential for non-devotees. There are very few artists who deserve to be followed through whatever they do, and Current 93 is part of that category. Unmissable for all followers of the Cult officiated by David Tibet.
