THE REVIEW

Italian Heavy Metal in the eighties was made up of bands that managed to achieve good success, such as Vanadium, Strana Officina, Sabotage, and could easily rival some English or American bands. One of these groups is Crying Steel, who debuted with their only full-length "On The Prowl" and released a concentrated dose of classic heavy metal onto the market.

Crying Steel has the typical hard/heavy sound that was a conquering ground for more renowned bands of the great N.W.O.B.H.M. The album opened with the incredible "No One's Crying", an authentic heavy/speed metal melodic of fine craftsmanship with incredible riffs and solos. The masterpiece was "Changing The Direction", a real gem with its magical refrain interspersed with fantastic guitar and keyboard riffs and solos. "Struggling Along" is another great song with its classic powerful riff, just like the galloping "Fly Away" with its thrilling and super fast pace. The following "Upright Smile" and "The Song Of Evening" do not fail to amaze us with a concentration of high-speed class and craftsmanship. The splendid "Alone Again" took the group to beautiful atmospheres thanks to its magical and melancholic choruses. The subsequent "Thundergods" is Crying Steel's authentic battle cry, a true masterpiece of heavy metal, with classic powerful and scratching guitar riffs... The concluding AOR ballad "Shining" closes the album with beautiful melodies and good choruses. With this exemplary album, Crying Steel, alongside other great bands, showcased that magical musical period of the eighties, masterfully summarized in this great album.
