Rating: The year is 1987 and Cristina D'Avena plunges into the unprecedented experience of a concept album. No more compilations, typical musical expressions of the '80s, expressing her abilities through a musical style characteristic of the previous decade.
With "Puffiamo all'avventura," dedicated to the animated series of the famous Smurfs, Cristina shows her prog streak, slender yet present.
The album opens with "Puffi di qua, Puffi di là," already known for being the theme song of the 1986/87 TV series of the little blue men. A cheerful track punctuated by a mighty bass and excellent synth arrangement. A stunning chorus that invites even those listening comfortably with headphones in their favorite armchair to bounce along. The lyrics point out that the little blue forest dwellers "are there," "watching you," but... "who knows where they are."
Following are other previously unreleased tracks "Puffiamo, un, due, tre all'avventura," "Madre Natura," "Oh Oh Baby Puffo Oh," "Un, due, tre l'orchestra c'è," and "Vanità vanità."
Side B opens with "Oh Gargamella ahi ahi!!!," a playful Austrian-style march that highlights the character's wickedness. Note the chorus in the refrain and the bass which, once again, as the backbone of the whole work, dictates the rhythmic law.
From here a succession of joyful rhythms with titles like "Sempre allegri," "Puffa una canzone," "La magia è sempre qua," "Puffiamo un girotondo," leading to the excellent closure "Magica canzone."
In short, not dramatic works like The Wall, or The Lamb, here the common thread is a little blue creature that gave its name to an ice cream. Nothing demanding, pure entertainment, but with the class that a clear voice and an appropriate supporting band can enter a moment of crisis and make you make peace with the world.
