THE REVIEW

Why the 'Greatest Hits' specifically? Well, to be honest, I picked one at random; any of them is more than fine for writing the few nonsense thoughts I have about the band in question.

When I say Creed, the first thing that comes to many people's minds is "Pearl Jam", due to the popular belief that the first band is a sort of poor imitation of the second, mainly because of the singer Scott Stapp's voice, which sounds practically identical to Eddie Vedder's. Well, it's a shame that, in truth, the two bands have nothing to do with each other, primarily because Creed's sound is very different, slightly shifting (and I emphasize slightly) more towards metal, with typical heavy guitars that are much more pronounced, leaving little room for the solos reminiscent of Pearl Jam's style. Moreover, Vedder's lyrics are vastly different in form and substance, on another level, I dare say.

At this point, there's the issue of the voice, but I believe it’s nobody’s fault if Mother Nature granted them both the same timbre, so it's not really the point to harp on when criticizing Creed. As for the rest, what can I say about them: they are certainly a very good band, composed of excellent musicians, and this compilation fully proves it: there are no absolute masterpieces, but the quality of the songs is consistently good, never falling into useless or overly trivial pieces. They probably should erect a monument to their record label and management for helping them sell (about 30 million records in total) and earn more money than they could have ever imagined, but, in the end, they are decent at what they do, certainly not original, but undoubtedly talented.

Wow, what a mess I've come up with... oh well, forgive me, but I wrote it in 10 minutes before heading out.

Regards.
