The Profile

Creed is an American post‑grunge/hard rock band formed in the mid‑1990s, featuring Scott Stapp, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, and Scott Phillips. They rose to mainstream success with My Own Prison and Human Clay, earned a Grammy for With Arms Wide Open, split in 2004, reunited in 2009 for Full Circle, and returned again in the 2020s.

Formed in Tallahassee, Florida, by Scott Stapp (vocals), Mark Tremonti (guitars), Brian Marshall (bass), and Scott Phillips (drums). Human Clay achieved multi‑platinum status in the U.S.; With Arms Wide Open won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song (2001). After a 2004 split, the instrumentalists formed Alter Bridge; Creed reunited in 2009 and again in 2023 for touring.

The DeBaser crowd has mixed feelings about Creed: from sharp takedowns of Human Clay to warmer receptions for Full Circle and early material. Reviews dwell on Stapp’s Vedder-like timbre, big late-’90s sales, and the Alter Bridge connection. Not a consensus classic, but not a write-off either.
