Crawling Chaos
Repellent Gastronomy

Sound blows to the teeth, that's what the Romagnoli band Crawling Chaos has to offer in "Repellent Gastronomy". An album definitely not recommended for the weak of stomach or at least those not accustomed to confronting death metal oriented productions. The band – debuting after eight years of hard-earned experience – showcases in the thirteen songs presented here excellent instrumental technique and a mastery of the subject common to few debutants, producing tons of riffs and instrumental solutions worthy of applause.

An album with a strong American flavor, found both in the way the songs are conceived and in the songwriting, open to any kind of solution. Songs like "Blind Fiends Of The Ancient Evil" and "Plate XII" are examples of cold clarity and great execution abilities, simply devastating in their progression and extreme enough to be praised even by an audience used to something even heavier. And speaking of extreme, it's essential to mention black metal, which on some occasions (especially at the rhythmic level) makes its appearance in the album, destabilizing the listener even further. The work done in the control room by Simone Mularoni (DGM, Empyrios) is commendable, capable of giving the right structure to an ocean of frenzied riffs.

Regarding the lyrics, the album seems to be structured in the form of a concept, a popular choice in the metal scene and which, on this occasion, adds even more charm to the product. A real hit, which in some situations brings back the surgical coldness of the early Behemoth and in others lets itself go into a sort of controlled collective hysteria reminiscent of Nile and Cannibal Corpse. These three names definitely played their part in the growth of Crawling Chaos, a band that surely has nothing to envy of many well-renowned colleagues and which we hope will soon have the opportunity to prove itself live in contexts far more prestigious than the usual pubs where most Italian promises find themselves confined.
