The Profile

Coroner are a Swiss technical/progressive thrash trio from Zurich: Ron Royce (bass, vocals), Tommy T. Baron/Tommy Vetterli (guitars), and Marquis Marky/Markus Edelmann (drums). Emerging in the mid‑80s and long cited as underrated, they fused razor‑precise thrash with neoclassical, progressive and later industrial/dark textures across albums like R.I.P., Punishment for Decadence, No More Color, Mental Vortex and Grin. Reunited in the 2010s, they returned with Dissonance Theory (2025, per review).

Formed in Zurich; early associates of Celtic Frost. Core trio: Ron Royce (Ron Broder), Tommy T. Baron (Tommy Vetterli), Marquis Marky (Markus Edelmann). Celebrated for technical precision and progressive/industrial leanings. Known covers include The Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” and Hendrix’s “Purple Haze.” Reunion-era drummer: Diego Rapacchietti (noted in review).

DeBaser’s reviews hail Coroner as Swiss pioneers of technical/progressive thrash, lauding razor‑sharp musicianship and dark, introspective atmospheres. Mental Vortex often tops the praise, while Grin is celebrated for industrial shades and genre deconstruction. Early blasts like R.I.P. and Punishment for Decadence showcase neoclassical bite and precision. A 2025 review welcomes their return with Dissonance Theory, aligning it with their classic era.
