THE REVIEW

A cult group in the true sense of the word, this Cordis Cincti Serpente (the name is taken from a magic grimoire): it is a project shrouded in mystery that, in the past, had already released a dark tape in 1989. Now the name resurfaces from the mists and oblivion, releasing a double cassette with the evocative title of No Yuggoth, which directly refers to the mad universe of the great H.P. Lovecraft. And indeed, the work is defined in the liner notes as “An Exploration Into Lovecraftian’S Metaphisye”. All the track titles refer to the "Lovecraftian" work and the cult of the Great Old Ones, reinterpreted in an esoteric key following the interpretation given by Kenneth Grant. Everything is enveloped in a magical and occult aura, and there is a notable esoteric and philosophical background: it is no coincidence that the enigmatic character behind Cordis Cincti Serpente was partly involved with the T.O.P.Y and the very first Esoteric Order Of Dagon, of which the great and late John Balance of Coil was also a member. Musically, the settings are minimal and dark, not far at times from certain atmospheres of Nature Unveiled by the early Current93, and very similar, in a naive approach, to the early and legendary works of Ain Soph. To be clear, we are absolutely not far, in terms of level, from the aforementioned Ain Soph and certain productions of Sigillum S: in comparison to these names, there is perhaps an even darker and more malevolent breath. Cordis Cincti Serpente is a group to love and adore unconditionally: highly recommended for lovers of H.P. Lovecraft, the early Current93 – those devoted to Aleister Crowley – and the followers of the occult. The box is released by the phantasmal and mysterious Industrial Ölocaust Recordings in a strictly limited edition of 31 copies. The box is available on Discogs (https://www.discogs.com/Cordis-Cincti-Serpente-Noo-Yuggoth/release/8574065).
