2002: "A Rush Of Blood To The Head", the second album by Coldplay. An album that cements them with the larger audience, even more than their debut album: "Parachutes" in 2000.
Melancholic, sad, extremely engaging, unmistakable pop-rock notes, from the very first minutes of listening, you find yourself immersed in the true 'Coldplay' style.
The leading song of the album is "In My Place", a truly original and catchy track at the same time, beautiful and enveloping, although it pays the price of being overly commercialized and excessively played on radio and TV, becoming a real hit of that year.
It's in the last track "Amsterdam" where we find the best of the album. Magical piano notes caressed by Martin's whispered voice make it an unforgettable song, a perfect closure for this CD.
A true masterpiece track is missing, something that stands out in the album which perhaps loses its punch in the middle part (see "Daylight" and "A Whisper").
The best apart from those mentioned above: the extremely desolate sadness of the splendid title-track "A Rush Of Blood To The Head", "Clocks" with a beautiful and compelling beginning with the piano that then explodes into a magnificent and rhythmic chorus and the reflective and slow "The Scientist".
They hadn't yet reached their creative peak, which would arrive with the following album "X&Y", but it's an enjoyable album from a band with a completely original sound, that manages well to reconcile both critical and public acclaim. Notable is the beautiful and fascinating geometric and mysterious depiction on the cover, perhaps inspired by the title-track.
A tip for Coldplay fans: even in the less famous songs and even those not released in the albums, we find the heights of their creativity, which sometimes exceed those contained in the three albums... see: "I'll See You Soon", "2000 Miles", "Your Love Means Everything", "Proof" and many others that I highly recommend downloading to all true fans of the band!
Coldplay put a smile upon your face!
'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' only smiles.
Coldplay certainly hasn’t brought anything new, but they demonstrate maturity and have shaken off the uncomfortable label of being the heirs of the legendary Radiohead.
'Clocks,' one of the most musically successful tracks.
‘A Rush’ is a masterpiece of four men who in the space of two years have become adults.
‘The Scientist’ must be discovered on one’s own and enjoyed every single second.
