First of all, let me say that this review will be quite short since this audio cassette contains 4 songs.
Being completely self-produced, this work features a rather raw recording, even though Coal Chamber is not known for audio quality.
The first song, as in their debut album in 1997, is the now famous "Loco," which is completely different from the version three years later, starting with the still young voice of singer Dez Fafara. This track also features diversity in instrumentation; indeed, various guitar parts are extended while others are reduced. In short, it is listenable, if not for the very strained voice of the singer.
The second track on this demo is "Babbit"; this is my favorite song on the record, which despite the aforementioned points turns out to be one of the band's best, reminiscent (for the younger listeners) of any song from "Cannibal" by Static-X.
Next, we arrive at "My Frustation," which, in my opinion, greatly influences the style of later albums like "Chamber Music" with its slow rhythm and the vocalist's characteristic hoarse voice.
The last track is "Broken," which I had to dig through the depths of torrent sites to find; in my opinion, this is the least significant song on the album, perhaps also why it has been overshadowed by the others; it does not adhere to the usual characteristics of Coal Chamber that we all know, leaving even me astonished.
In short, I hope this "Quick Review" was enjoyable and makes you want to listen to Coal Chamber even more, a band that represents nu metal in all its characteristics.
