Led by frontman Dylan Baldi, Cloud Nothings have been one of the most interesting bands in the U.S. alternative scene for a few years now, and beyond. Their music is not the proverbial reinvention of the wheel, but it has a strong emotional impact - a sense of urgency and honesty that seems to be becoming increasingly difficult to find in post-punk bands. These qualities are certainly not lacking in Cloud Nothings' albums, especially considering their discography starting from "Attack On Memory," created with the help of Steve Albini in 2012.

Since the aforementioned album, Cloud Nothings have maintained their identity, while also exploring very different sound and production possibilities - from the chaotic and instinctive sound of "Here and Nowhere Else" (2014) to the more melodic and clean style of "Life Without Sound" (2017). This 2018 effort, "Last Building Burning," is perhaps one of the most aggressive albums by Cloud Nothings. The album lasts a little over half an hour, with explosive tracks like "On The Edge," alternating with Dinosaur Jr.-style melodies ("Leave Him Now"). There is also room for darker and more experimental sounds (up to a point) with tracks like "The Echo Of The World" and "Dissolution," a piece that lasts over 10 minutes, with a long instrumental session animated by searing feedback. These eight tracks are very enjoyable and are another great snapshot of a band that knows how to carry forward its discography in an interesting way, while maintaining its artistic identity.
