I already know the comments this review will receive because just the name Claudio Baglioni provokes vomiting in several Debaser users, but I'll muster the courage and move forward.
Let me preface by saying that the original 1985 album was a true masterpiece, and it's no coincidence that it is the best-selling album in Italy of all time with 4.5 million copies sold, spending 21 weeks at number 1 and a year and a half in the top chart positions.
So, how many stars will I give this album? 3 stars.
One star is deducted because you can't completely remake and re-record a perfect album like the one from 1985 and expect to achieve what was done 40 years ago.
The original album was flawless, and no new arrangement can ever reach the peak of the original.
The other star is deducted because the songs are re-sung with keys lowered by several semitones compared to the originals, proving that 40 years have passed, the voice has changed, and it's no longer what it used to be. Thus, even for this reason alone, this album could have been avoided.
What would I have liked to actually celebrate this 40th anniversary? I would have liked the original album remastered with added extras related to the pilot recordings of the tracks to understand the evolution of the songs, or I would have included an unreleased concert from the 1985 tour related to the album.
In short, I would not have touched the original album.
I would have taken the entire album on tour (with recent arrangements) as Baglioni has indeed announced and will do in 2026, but without releasing this remake.
3 stars remain because they are still beautiful songs and well recorded live, but I prefer to listen to the original.
