Ok, there are already reviews about the disaster "Scream", so since I share the same opinion, I would like to focus on other details.

As many of you may know, there are rumors about a possible reunion of Soundgarden (for now, they are talking only about collections of b-sides... but in the future...), so I would like to make some considerations regarding this: if I had known this news 2 years ago, I would have been happy, because with the end of the Audioslave project (in my opinion a little underrated) I would have understood Chris Cornell's fear of ending up unjustly in anonymity, so a reunion with his historic band would have made sense, but after "Scream" I can no longer look at Cornell, and thus the "new" Soundgarden, with the same eyes.

How can you not think that this is just another commercial stunt by Chris to relaunch himself? Failed (partly) the Audioslave project, failed the hip-hop attempt (how could he think it would work?)... only Soundgarden is left... Sure, you can try, but the image of Cornell as Timbaland's puppet acting like one of the Backstreet Boys won't be easily forgotten! By now, trust in him is almost gone: sure, it was already known that he wanted to opt for more pop sounds (the previous album "Carry on" is an example), but with "Scream" he went overboard... he unjustly turned his back on the millions of supporters who still followed him with great interest.

At this point, the question that comes to mind is: "Couldn't he have avoided betraying the fans like this?" and the answer is: "Absolutely yes!"

Just listen to the songs in live versions (those without disco effects... obviously...) or in acoustic versions: sure, we are not in front of new great "Black hole sun", that's clear, but there were good ideas. "Scream" in acoustic version, as obvious as it might be, is nice, as is "Long gone" (at least the version released as a single is more "rock"... ...), "Never far away", and the only song that was saved from the hip-hop work "Two drink minimum". So, thinking that the synthetic effects weren't needed to mask a lack of inspiration, I believe that an album in a "classic" style wouldn't have done too badly.

And the interviews given by Chris Cornell about "Scream" don't hold up, in which he stated that he was "satisfied with the work done" and that "he did it only because it was what he wanted". It's obvious that it's not true... I had never heard his voice so bored and so unconvincing!

The conclusion is one: Chris Cornell sold out.

I would even be willing to forgive him, but are we sure that he's really regretful? But more than that, are we sure that Soundgarden won’t become yet another joke played on us?

I hope not... What do you think?

07   Take Me Alive (04:35)

I tried and tried to walk away
to be the bigger man and leave
you made it hard for me, for me
it’s been a long lonely road
I didn’t know which way to go
you made my blood run cold
and filled me up with sorrow

there’s no where for me to go
I'm a long way away from home
I won’t go without a fight
you'll never take me alive

you'll never take me alive oh no, you won’t
ever take me alive oh no, you won’t
take me alive oh no, you won’t
ever take me alive oh no, you won’t

I tried and tried to shed your skin
but you've controlled me from within
your love has been a sin
I won’t forget tomorrow

There’s no where for me to go
I'm a long way away from home
I won’t go without a fight
you'll never take me alive

you'll never take me alive oh no, you won’t
ever take me alive oh no, you won’t
take me alive oh no, you won’t
ever take me alive oh no, you won’t

In the fire inside the circle
lonely treats today
In the fire inside the circle
lonely treats today

you'll never take me alive oh no, you won’t
(in the fire inside the circle)
ever take me alive oh no, you won’t
(lonely treats today)
take me alive oh no, you won’t
(in the fire inside the circle)
ever take me alive oh no, you won’t
(lonely treats today)

in the fire inside, in the fire inside

08   Long Gone (05:15)

09   Scream (06:14)

10   Enemy (04:35)

Every time the blood runs to my head
I hear the ring
Something to remind me I'm not dead
Or caught in between

I listen to the voice and what it says
It’s never sweet
It’s something I was born into, I guess
Living in me

No price
Nothing I pay will make it alright
Nothing I see will make it lose sight
Nothing I take will make me sleep at night
Sleep at night

When I look within
I feel like I should be running, running, running, running
I will never shake this feeling
Till I feel nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing

I have the enemy, enemy, enemy
Inside of me, enemy, enemy, enemy
I have the enemy, enemy, enemy
Inside of me, enemy, enemy, enemy

Every time I take another breath
I feel the sting
Every one around me seems so numb
I feel everything

No price
Nothing I pay will make it alright
Nothing I see will make it lose sight
Nothing I take will make me sleep at night
Sleep at night

When I look within
I feel like I should be running, running, running, running
I will never shake this feeling
Till I feel nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing

I have the enemy, enemy, enemy
Inside of me, enemy, enemy, enemy
I have the enemy, enemy, enemy
Inside of me, enemy, enemy, enemy

Taking my time to untangle the wires
And stare into my sanity
Dropping the hammer and pulling the trigger
I know now the bullet is me

I have the enemy inside

I have the enemy, enemy, enemy
Inside of me, enemy, enemy, enemy
I have the enemy, enemy, enemy
Inside of me, enemy, enemy, enemy

I should have left that side of town alone
I should have left that side of town alone
I should have left that side of town alone
A long time ago

I should have left that side of town alone
I should have left that side of town alone
I should have left that side of town alone
A long time ago

"Chris, let me tell you, with all due respect, this album literally sucks!"

 "FUCK YOU AND TIMBALAND!!"

Sixty-four minutes of simply mind-blowing music. One wonders if they have put the wrong CD, but unfortunately, it is indeed him.

Has a great rock voice thrown itself away permanently like this? It seems so, I have no other words.

Are you sure? I find it hard to believe; no because, you must know, what my PC speakers are transmitting doesn’t seem either grunge or hard rock or any other genre associated with the singer’s past projects.

Trust is a bad thing. Money is a terrible thing.
