For many, just another Finnish power metal band from recent years; for others, a positive force in the same music genre. After receiving significant acclaim for their two successful albums "Reign of Elements" and "Legacy of Hate," the six Finns set to work on their third studio album, entitled Mortal Mind Creation, released in 2006.

The album in question, besides representing the record of definitive artistic confirmation, also features some stylistic changes: firstly, the scream used in Legacy of Hate by singer Antti Railio is completely abandoned, although there are still passages where Railio doesn't shy away from aggression. Moreover, there is a noticeable heaviness in the sound, particularly in the guitar sound, with the keyboard taking a back seat.

Mortal Mind Creation contains 9 tracks: one ballad and eight power metal songs, which, while not adding anything new to the genre, are played and composed with great professionalism. The opening track, "Lord of Mortals", exemplifies these described characteristics, with Tapani Kangas's rhythm guitar stealing the spotlight. The same pattern follows in the next track, "Unreality", probably one of the album's highlights. "Demon Inside" is more intricate, yet the base remains the same with tight rhythms and keyboards, reminiscent of Teutonic power more than the Finnish style.

The album maintains a high average level, although it lacks a hit that immediately sticks in your head and doesn't leave. However, Mortal Mind Creation confirms the band's excellent compositional skills, thanks to simple songwriting that manages not to be clichéd. Rating: 3 and a half.
