Cathy Berberian

Cathy Berberian (1925–1983) was an American mezzo-soprano of Armenian descent, celebrated for her virtuosic range and fearless exploration of contemporary music. She studied at Columbia University and the Milan Conservatory, married composer Luciano Berio in 1950, championed modern and baroque repertoire, and composed the iconic vocal piece Stripsody.
