LA RECENSIONE

There's a new generation of rappers who learned their flow from Future and their Italian from Pop Smoke; lucky them and their wet trap dreams. They’re growing now even outside of Milan, in remote towns where for every lake you see, you imagine a kid in underwear shooting with a machine gun. Well, Capo Plaza has little to do with the damp aesthetics of certain southern rap, yet he has a certain neomelodic way of chewing over rhymes as if they were slipping off his tongue. Melodies not by notes, but by bars. Basically, the yin in the yang, Salerno sabering in Montenapo.

His new album is a pain in the ass halfway through the first listen, but if you're lucky enough to skip the right tracks from the start, you'll find yourself holding the pinnacle of today's trap-trite-but-makes-your-chest-vibrate. Not the one with Gunna, not even the fourth take of Allenamento, but romantic bangers like No Stress, Street, and Non Fare Così. Trivial and sad and sweet things, that make our eyes shine as we watch the city lights evaporate in slow motion.
