Sappy, cloying, embarrassing. Two stars only for the wonderful final solo by Gato Barbieri. But the lyrics are something indecent. "My name is Antonio and I’m a singer-songwriter" (...) "My name is Laura and I have a degree" (was it too expensive to give her another name?) "They call me Jesus and I’m a fisherman" (!!!) "My name is Aisha like a song" (?) "I’m the fourth of three thousand people" (??????)

I consider it to be at a level of less than decent. Arrangement is a 7, lyrics a 3. A round 5, or 2 and a half stars.

Singer-songwriter music should be evaluated for the lyrics, not for the music/arrangements. If you evaluate singer-songwriters based on the music, then the quality drops significantly, because singer-songwriter music is all about the lyrics. In the end, there were very few local singer-songwriters who believed that music should simply accompany a text. Off the top of my head, I think of: Lucio Dalla, Fossati, Battisti, and (perhaps) Pino Daniele.

It is true that in singer-songwriter music, more importance is given to the lyrics than to the melodies, even though in the 70s it was all acoustic, just guitar to be clear, in order to exalt the lyrics (see La guerra di Piero, just an acoustic guitar but with lyrics that are still celebrated today). However, over time this has somewhat faded away and arrangements have become increasingly rich, sometimes paying less attention to the lyrics (Venditti has been doing this for more than thirty years) and sometimes creating absolute gems (Se me lo dicevi prima dell'Enzone nazionale).

Actually, Venditti still makes music like a dog’s ass.

Heavier arrangements from Venditti? Well... try to take all the albums starting from "Benvenuti in paradiso" in 1991; you'll notice they are a (badly executed) mix of his three previous records, with that saxophone popping up every now and then in an 80s soft-porn style or sentimental fluff adapted for wedding slow dances (Amici mai, Che tesoro che sei, etc. etc.). Then again, de gustibus...

@[Company] this is what happens when I write from my phone; for some reason, random sentences come out, without thinking too much about it.

Well, @[Company], if you think of "It's a political matter / A big joke / In this new republic / No one resembles me" or "I love you my great love / I love you my heart is about to burst / Inside you I've lost myself / And I swear it's not a joke," you see that this song becomes pure poetry :)

PUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! If this is poetry, Young man, then it’s Leopardi 🤣

OBVIOUSLY, I didn't mean to say it's poetry; I meant to say that compared to kakate like "You take this bitter fruit" or "I love you in vain," this is a masterpiece :)
