The Cannibals, having reached their second studio album, are eager to experiment with something new. In fact, in this "Butchered At Birth," they don't seem to be the same band from their debut. The drums burst forth relentlessly, the guitars are compressed to the maximum, making the audio extremely heavy, and Chris Barnes sounds like a caveman! He maintains his extremely low growl throughout all nine intense songs. The band is in its early stages but already demonstrates excellent personality, technique, and compositional skills. The lyrics are consistently in the same style, increasingly focused on splatter, corpses, and dismemberment... in full CANNIBAL CORPSE style. These guys are just starting out but are afraid of nothing, not changing a jot of their personal musical setup. This is a fairly complete and compact album that will immediately show you what this band is capable of and how it can push certain musical boundaries. A real gem for death metal enthusiasts, crafted to hurt!
