New album for Canaan, a project with blurred and dark characteristics whose works have always been published by the legendary Eibon Records, a guarantee when it comes to dark-ambient sounds. Canaan has always been characterized as an extremely unique group: listening to their albums is a unique experience and not always easy if you don't get into the spirit and empathize with their peculiar approach. This new album, entitled in an enigmatic and decadent manner Il giorno dei campanelli, is no exception. The music consists of simple electronic layers of a clear dark-ambient matrix accompanying a voice reciting texts with a distinctly existentialist flavor. Once you manage to enter the extremely rarefied and surreal atmosphere of Canaan, you find yourself projected into a universe with changing and metaphysical outlines. The sparse and minimal settings end up being perfect to highlight the dark and decadent poetry of the words. It's objectively not an easy album to listen to: you must not approach this work superficially but need to have the right state of mind. In this sense, it's perfect as the soundtrack for a gloomy and rainy day. The atmospheres are indeed very dark and shadowy and, at times, painful and piercing. What emerges from listening to the lyrics is a sensation of ultimate pain that pervades the reality we live in every day and to which it's impossible to oppose. From these tenuous sound fragments, a sense of impending tragedy emerges that leaves you somewhat stunned and is partly mitigated by the feeling of beauty generated by the music. Il giorno dei campanelli is ultimately an album difficult to define, but in any case, it will appeal to those who want to confront their most hidden Self.
