Cabaret Voltaire

Methodology '74/'78: Attic Tapes Mike76

The sound of Cabaret Voltaire is now mature, acting as the missing link between the Krautrock of the '70s and the Techno of the '90s.

Their music encapsulates a bleak and black-and-white vision of things, marking early influences on industrial and punk genres.

Dive into the raw origins of electronic music—listen to Cabaret Voltaire’s Attic Tapes and discover the roots of industrial and techno soundscapes.

Cabaret Voltaire

Formed in Sheffield in 1973 by Richard H. Kirk, Stephen Mallinder, and Chris Watson, Cabaret Voltaire fused tape manipulation, noise, and electronics with post-punk, later embracing dancefloor-oriented grooves. Influential across industrial, EBM, and techno, the project was revived by Kirk in the 2010s before concluding in 2021.
