Prophetic title; they choose a live album to interrupt their career. They will return in the 2000s for two new albums.
But on October 18, 2014, the day of the fiftieth birthday of bassist and founder Dan Lilker, the definitive tombstone will be laid on Brutal Truth.
And it's a shame because very few other bands can boast the sonic extremism of the band; from their distant beginnings, they have tried to blend Grindcore, Death Metal, Hardcore, Noise together; succeeding. Creating an apocalyptic sonic chaos.
Fifty-six (56!!) tracks; mostly recorded live, among smoky and modest basements in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, United States.
Very short songs, many of which are under a minute long. They don't need much time to impose their terrifying sound; without caring for technicalities and similar hassles. Uncontrolled violence; killer riffs that hit like flaming bullets on the sweaty bodies that have rushed there for them. A sound that must hurt; that must lead to a mosh pit of dantesque proportions, not just near the stage.
There are also about ten covers: Brutal Truth's homage to bands like Boredoms, Melvins, Agathocles, and Black Sabbath. A tribute done in their way: devastating and tearing apart the original versions.
It's just right to suggest listening to "Cornucopia" by Black Sabbath. Sludge-Doom thick and cavernous; Kevin's voice vomiting the verses declaimed many years earlier by Ozzie.
The label "Relapse" takes care of spreading the disease across the vast globe.
Never again anyone like and as much as the four guys from New York...CHOICE OF A NEW GENERATION...
