Worked in RAI Studio di fonologia musicale (Milan) on electronic tape pieces (1956–1962). Collaborated with performers such as Cathy Berberian; Heinz Holliger is noted as a prominent performer of Maderna's oboe concertos. Late orchestral pieces include Quadrivium (1969), Aura (1972) and Biogramma (1972).
