THE REVIEW

I usually don't indulge in Hardcore and Post-Metal. I prefer Doom, old-school Thrash, and some Black. However, there are exceptions.

In this case, I'm referring to truly innovative bands with guts. Bands like Botch, Neurosis, and the less fortunate Breach.

Breach, indeed, was a Swedish band formed in the early '90s and influenced as much by the Straight Edge scene (more musically than ideologically) as by the abrasive metal of bands such as Entombed, Helmet, and Fudge Tunnel. After an EP in 1994, Breach debuted in 1995 with the album "Friction".

It's squared and explosive anger contained in this raw debut of theirs. We are still far from the experimentation that will make chapters like "Venom" and "Kollapse" famous, but the band's potential is expressed with great care and technical skill.

What comes out from the tracks of the album under consideration is anger and frustration, along with a series of healthy invectives against the prevailing degradation and apathy, then as now, in the world around us.

Not a revolutionary album, those would come a few years later, but certainly a necessary chapter to understand the evolution of the Stockholm guys.

Try to mosh to songs like "Define Me," "Always Nothing," "Almighty Generation," or the title track. Hardcore and Metal shake hands to offer you the perfect soundtrack for a day of ordinary madness.

An honest and deserving work!

Sometimes, for 5 minutes, I find the truth in meaningless smoke signals, in what can be a mute heart-wrenching scream.

Beauty can be a feeling, an emotion, a piercing pain that makes you close your eyes and stagger every day.
