Starting by mentioning the independent circuit might be a bit reckless when introducing these two artists.

Sonja Glass and Valeska Steiner are respectively a bassist and a voice/guitarist who form the duo BOY.

The two met in 2005 at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, and decided a few years later to try composing songs together; something they certainly succeeded in.

They were thus discovered after a few performances by the German indie guru Herbert Grönemeyer (Grönland records), through whom they released their first album, Mutual Friends. The guy is famous in his field for his methodical work ethic; absolute (and fair) artistic freedom and annual numerical limits on record contracts.

Their intimate approach to songwriting, between folk and indie pop, wins over audiences even outside of Europe, making it unusual to define them as niche.

The album is indeed certified gold for sales.

The successful single Little Numbers accompanies a Lufthansa commercial and starts making its way onto radios around the globe.

The songs that, in the opinion of the writer, best represent the batch are Skin and Drive Darling. Apparent pop lightheartedness that lets flow two texts dealing with the relentless passage of time, goodbyes, and the superficiality with which existential voids are filled.

Simple and fluent, we don't always need revolutions to immerse ourselves in contemporaneity.
