THE REVIEW

Is it really wrong to piss outside the pot? Especially for those who 'have never had pots at home'. If Cheapness And Beauty needed a category, it would undoubtedly include many works by other big stars from the eighties who decided to lighten their sound from the keyboards to enrich it with those glam guitars in the nineties.

Moreover, glam is really an element that stands out in its most rock sense on this album.

In 1995, in fact, George decided to release his first autobiography Take It Like A Man; and this Cheapness And Beauty reflects in its arrangements the intention to pay tribute to the good old rock n' roll that the artist listened to as a kid.

Indeed, it starts with the cover of Funtime by Iggy Pop (sound and music video have a Manson-like mood that has not yet fully bloomed).

Rattling and decisive tracklist, especially in the successful episodes of God Don't Hold A Grudge and Genocide Peroxide that highlight the beautiful union between George's voice and the ever-present guitars (I imagine the old fans and their wtf!?) except for If I Could Fly and I'll Adore which seem more tied to the classic concept of ballad (although beautiful, I recommend this album to those looking for an alternative Boy George, so I prefer the more forceful tracks).

I recommend giving the album a chance both to fans of Culture Club and to those who are die-hard six-string enthusiasts. After all, rock n' roll is about freedom; an artistic freedom that Boy George represents like few others, for better or worse.

While some ballads exist, the album is recommended especially for fans seeking a more alternative Boy George. It captures artistic freedom and a bold reinvention.
